  • Dr Subanesan Nadesapillai, Department of Rheumatology & Nuclear Medicine, The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Australia
  • Dr Gene-Siew Ngian, Australia
  • Mr Jason Callahan, Royal Melbourne Hospital, Australia
  • Aim: To evaluate the usefulness of bone scan SPECT/CT in foot and ankle imaging

Method: New generation SPECT/CT gamma cameras significantly improved the image quality and resolution. We are now able to localize the osteoblastic lesions in the foot and ankle region clearly. We retrospectively evaluated the usefulness of SPECT/CT scans using Symbia Siemens system over six month period. The SPECT/CT was evaluated to identify the the bone involved and the joint involved in the foot and ankle region. I addition, the usefulness of SPECT/CT was evaluated in pre-arthrodesis assessment, post fracture and post orthopeadic surgery complication assessment, disease localization in the deformed foot (ie diabetic or rheumatoid arthritis feet).

Result: Detailed clinical analysis and numerus SPECT/CT pictures of the foot and ankle will be presented in the poster to demonstrate the usefullness of foot and ankle SPECT/CT.

Conclusion: The new generation SPECT/CT cameras have a critical role in the diagnosis of foot and ankle disorders, pre-arthrodesis evaluation, post fracture and post orthopeadic surgery complication evaluation. Its role is even more important in diabetic and rheumatoid arthritis feet.
